HOW IT'S MADE
MATERIALS
Whenever possible, we use premium vegetable-tanned leather. Roughly 90% of today's leather products are chrome-tanned, which typically only takes several days and uses harsh chemicals to dye the hide. Vegetable tanning, a method that has been around since as early as 7000 BCE, uses oak, chestnut, or mimosa bark, and the tannins from these plants result in a longer-lasting product. The vegetable tanning process can take anywhere from six weeks to six months, depending on the plants used and the number of “pits” or barrels the leather soaks in.
